Following the successful launch of our Eurosport Player and ESPN+, our teams are feverishly working on new services for the marquee Disney SVOD project that will be launching in late 2019. Based in the Disney Streaming Services offices at Houldsworth Mill in Stockport, Greater Manchester, you will be working with a large, cross-functional and distributed team of Scala Developers, DevOps Engineers, Automation Testers and Front-End Engineers. This is where the bulk of the UK team is based, so you have the opportunity to work on projects relating to DRM, Multimedia, API Services, ADTech, and many others.
We want to talk with talented engineers who are either practicing Scala engineers or who are interested in functional programming and have some knowledge of Scala or languages such as Haskell, Scheme, Clojure, and F#.
What will you do as a Scala Engineer at Disney Streaming Services:
You will have the opportunity to stay at the forefront of technology and apply a principled approach to software engineering, working on interesting projects using Scala, Akka, Kafka, Kinesis and Dynamo. We aim to build software that is distributed, reactive and scalable. You will:
Lead a significant part of the implementation and deployment of services within your team.
Work on challenging and varied business domains including video encoding, digital rights management, advertising, authentication, and payment services.
Apply principled engineering practices including unit testing, integration testing, continuous integration and, by your example, lead others in your team to do likewise.
Develop your technical understanding to support and build your career.
Act as a mentor and an example to others in your team and across the organisation.
What we’d like to see:
Demonstrable working experience with the Lightbend Reactive Platform, particularly Scala, Akka & Play.
Experience creating scalable and reactive web applications with modern frameworks such as: Play, ScalaJS, AngularJS, ReactJS.
Knowledge of applying object-oriented and functional programming styles to real-world software engineering problems.
Demonstrable understanding of high-quality coding and testing practices.
A strong understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
An appetite to learn new technologies and a drive for continual improvement.
Contributions to the technical community, either through blogs, internal workshops, meetups or conferences.
